Some people come into your life to change it and some are just a passing wave. I’ve had my share of both in my short time on earth.

Designing has never been my forte as I knew next to nothing about it. I am an educator and also still a student with a background in Accounting so you see they have nothing in common with designing until I met an amazing friend that showed me how awesome it is. I wanted to learn how to program so I applied for HNG7 Internship as a front end developer while I study using freecodecamp. I got to stage 3 though and I was surprised as to how I got there but hey, we learn everyday right?

After I didn’t make the cut for HNG because it got tougher, I decided to try my hands on something else and he introduced me to designing cos one of the problems I had with programming was the fact that I could not measure my progress and I’ll have to run codes severally to know if it works or not.

Designing was clear and I could detect my mistakes almost immediately. My first attempt at it was an Instagram homepage I designed and I was shown the ropes by watching Youtube videos plus guidance from another friend and trying my hands on any design material I could get. There I got to know the difference between UI and UX — “UI deals with the product user’s interface while the UX deals with the user’s experience”. I have always thought they were one and the same.

It has been an amazing experience so far and I hope I get to learn more on WeJapa. By the end of this program, I hope to have garnered enough experience to become a good designer and smoothen my rough edges.
